Through the Beyond Bronte scheme, I was scouted for the role as a runner in a Channel 4 TV pilot and was successful in the interview process.
On the induction day we went through the schedule, health and safety rules and the general logistics of the upcoming production days. I was made runner for Nikhil and Jonny, the two main actors. I was also put in charge of organising lunch for the cast and crew. We were taken around the location where the shooting would take place, Bradford College, to become familiar with it.
During the first two days of filming, I found myself having to juggle multiple responsibilities to ensure everything was running smoothly. I became a 3rd AD rather than a runner and found myself utilising my leadership and management skills to organise the other runners on set. I designated everyone certain tasks to focus on to make sure the jobs we were given as a collective were all completed.
The first two days on set were stressful, long and very tiring but so rewarding! It was great to connect with some amazing people and share my first time on a big set alongside such a talented, funny bunch.
On the final day, some of the crew recognised my ability to manage others with confidence and professionalism. Due to the 1st AD having to leave early to catch his train, I was assigned this role and had to step up and fill in for him. Despite being incredibly nervous, I took control and gave it my best shot!
Although new to the role, it allowed me to recognise that ADing is definitely a department I should explore more. It was an amazing experience because I was the first person on set to shout 'Brad Boys is a wrap!' to the whole team!
